News Flash:  The Frog is now closed for the season

"Sit back and relax in the warm and inviting atmosphere of “The Whistling Frog Cafe & Bar” when staying at one of the many lodging or camping options on-site. Take a culinary, mid-point break in your journey through the Catlins Conservation Park.
You won't be disappointed.

Enjoy a refreshing beverage, dessert or a delicious hot meal, accompanied by our spectacular sunsets from the heated & glass enclosed viewing deck. We pride ourselves on speedy service during the day and leisurely evening dining experiences.

This central Catlins resort is conveniently located just 400 meters from the Cathedral Caves on the McLean Falls access road.
Walk from your accommodation or campsite of choice. No driving required. We even have a genuine wood-fired pizza at ‘Happy Hour,’ most weekends…!

Enjoy the ambience and catch up with our free guest internet access. Taste our fine selection of New Zealand wines, craft-brewed tap beers or fresh-brewed, “Zee” espresso coffees, made by our trained baristas.

This creative restaurant features chef Tom Peake's award winning cuisine, complete with edible flower garnishes from our garden greenhouse, his best 'Kiwi' Pie winner and craft-beer battered, NZ Blue Cod & chips. Farm to table seasonal ‘grass fed’ beef, lamb, free-range chicken, vegetarian salads and risotto, including gluten-free dining options.

This restaurant is fully licensed and open daily, during the busy summer season from early October - end of May.
Dinner reservations are recommended as later evening meals may not be available during the quieter months.

"One Day, One Place "

Stay awhile

You have come all this way, to the bottom of the world. Next stop, Antarctica.

The Catlins, steeped in history and swathed in the mists of time. Old whaling stations, home to a petrified forest, cascading waterfalls and wildlife that is thriving in an uncorrupted eco environment.

So many people think of passing through the Catlins en route to other places. So many people are wrong.... The Catlins is a holiday in itself!

“TWENTY years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain

Take your time and sit awhile. Explore the Catlins one day, one place, one day at a time.
